Episode 59: Porn Addiction, Trauma & EMDR – Truth About Sex Addiction

What happens when pornography, escorts, or compulsive sexual behavior become impossible to stop? This week, clinical sexologist and sex coach Dr. Stacy sits down with licensed psychotherapist and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Scott Stolarick — 33 years of clinical experience and 26 years specifically working with sex addiction and trauma — for a sexologist talk that is honest, compassionate, and judgment-free about what’s really going on beneath the surface of sexual compulsivity.

In this episode:

  • Why sex addiction isn’t in the DSM — and why that doesn’t mean it’s not real
  • How unresolved childhood trauma quietly becomes the engine behind addictive sexual behavior
  • What EMDR therapy is, how it works, and why Scott’s informed-consent-first approach changes everything
  • Why poor sex education and accidental exposure to sexual content as a child can shape adult behavior in powerful ways
  • The critical difference between intimacy and sex — and why confusing the two keeps people stuck
  • What partners of people with sex addiction need to hear right now

Scott is a licensed, trauma-informed psychotherapist, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, experienced clinical supervisor, and the owner of Mosaic Pathway Counseling in Gurnee, Illinois. He holds Management and Leadership Certifications from the University of Notre Dame and Cornell University, and he has spent 26 years working specifically with sex offenders, sex addiction, and trauma survivors.
